08/29/2011

The Redlegs and Bats met for Game 3 at Kettering Fields to decide the series. Eric Williams got the ball for the Redlegs and Gary Robinson was sent to the hill by the Bats to determine who would move on.

Williams came out in the first inning and struck out the side to get the game started. Robinson worked out of some trouble in the first to keep the game scoreless after one inning. Williams held the Bats in check by striking out two more in the second inning. In the bottom of the frame, the Redlegs struck first when Matt Mattice singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI double by John Long. After another single and a walk, Steve Benthal made the score 2-0 with a sacrifice fly, scoring Long.

The Redlegs took a commanding lead in the 3rd when Brandon Howard led off with a walk and scored on an RBI single by Jared Bradley. A batter later, Kevin Campbell drove in two more with a single following by a 3-run home run by Jake Robinson. The Redlegs added another run in the 4th with another RBI single by Bradley to make the advantage 9-0.

The Bats finally got to Williams in the 5th with a 2 run double from Doug Whitney and an RBI single from Kyle Mefford. Brad Clark took over for the 6th inning striking out the side setting the stage for the Redlegs to take home their first playoff series victory in team history.

The Redlegs pushed across 9 runs in the bottom half of the sixth to make the final score 18-3 highlighted by a 2 run triple from Mattice and a 3 run triple by Robinson.

The Redlegs are off for Labor Day weekend but look to continue their hot streak in two weeks against the Slammers.
