The Redlegs went into the draft looking for one thing in 2012,
pitching. Unfortunately in years past that has been the
strategy of many teams drafting in the top 5, so there was
uncertainty if the Redlegs would be able to meet that need.
But this year the Redlegs were able to get their target at the
5th spot in the form of 21 year old Bobby Dempsey. Dempsey, a
Northmont Grad, impressed at Sunday’s tryout showing off a
hard fastball from the mound while also showing some strong
potential as a hitter with plenty of pop in his swing. Bobby
can play both of the corner infield positions and will likely
serve in the corner outfield spots this season when not on the
hill. Dempsey and the Redlegs will see their first action on
Sunday when they scrimmage the Miami Valley Thunder at
Athletes in Action in Xenia at 1:00pm.
