Kevin Campbell followed up on the hill after Schaeffer’s
performance and turned in a gem of his own. Campbell went
the distance, allowing only 5 hits and striking out 7 while
giving up only 1 run (unearned) in the game. Campbell was
one out from a complete game shutout, but a fly ball that
should have ended the game fell in for the Indians to get on
the board.
The Redlegs took an early lead in the top of the 1st when
Jack Millard led the game off with a double, and later
scored after a couple of past balls that allowed him to move
to third and eventually to home. After scoring another run
in the 3rd, the Redlegs took control of the game in the 6th
as they pushed 3 runs across. Steve Benthal led the inning
off with a walk and stole 2nd base to get into scoring
position. Brandon Burchfield then drove him in with a
single, and later scored on an RBI single by Jared Bradley.
Bradley then stole 2nd and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Redlegs were then able to tack one more on in the 7th
after Mattice led the inning off with a single and stole 2nd
then later scored on a RBI single from Benthal.
The Redlegs take on a tough Miami Valley Cardinals squad
next weekend at Action Sports Complex and will look to even
up the record with a couple of wins.
