Redlegs Stumble Against Sox

07/25/2012

Kevin Campbell and Ryan Carter squared off again on Sunday, an intriguing rematch of when these two combined to allow only 4 hits back on June 14th. Carter threw a no hitter and struck out 16 Redlegs that night while Campbell allowed only 4 hits and 2 runs to the high powered Sox offense.

This time the Redlegs managed 5 hits off of Carter in 5 innings, but Carter still fanned 11 batters in the outing. Campbell went 5 innings and struck out 3, but the Sox were able to strike for 9 hits and 7 runs this time around. After Campbell exited the game, the Sox poured on 8 more runs in the final two frames en route to a run rule victory.

The Redlegs could only manage 1 run off of 10 hits leaving 11 base runners stranded over the course of the game. Matt Mattice made an excellent sliding catch in right to stop a potential Sox Rally in the 5th inning. Brandon Howard flashed some leather in the 1st inning making a great leaping catch, then beat the runner back to 2nd for the double play.

The Redlegs only extra base hit came in the 1st inning when Jacob Robinson hit a ground rule double that bounced over the left field fence. Kevin Campbell and Jack Millard each had 2 hits in the game. Campbell has been on a hot streak at the plate recently and is leading the team in many offensive categories over his last 5 games. He has batted .545 (6-11) with 4 runs, 6 RBI’s, 5BB’s and a home run in his last 11 at bats.
