Offense Comes Through in Big Win

The Redlegs got one back from the Miami Valley Bats on Thursday night, preventing the Bats from getting a season sweep. The Redleg offense opened up for 22 runs on 19 hits in the game.

The bats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, but it was short lived as the Redlegs came back with a 9 run top of the 2nd to take a 9-4 lead. Brandon Howard was hit by a pitch to lead the inning off, Mattice would then work a walk, and John Long would single to drive in Howard. After a fielder’s choice for the 2nd out, Matt Redman and Jared Bradley singled back-to-back, each driving in a run. Jack Millard then walked to load the bases followed by an RBI walk from Kevin Campbell. Robinson then had an RBI single before Brandon Howard cleared the bases with a triple. Taylor Patterson then followed with a triple of his own, driving in Howard to end the inning’s scoring.

The Bats scored 5 more in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game back up at 9, and then would take a 10-9 lead after the 4th inning. But the Redlegs would take a commanding lead in the top of the 5th, pushing 10 more runs across to take a 19-9 lead. Howard got things started again, this time reaching on an error. Patterson and Mattice then had back-to- back singles before Long brought 2 runs in with a double. Dempsey, Redman, Bradley, and Longacre all singled consecutively resulting in 2 more runs. Robinson later doubled to bring 2 more runs across.

The Redlegs would add 3 more in the 6th highlighted by a 2 run single from Kevin Campbell. This game marked the 2nd consecutive game, and 3rd this season, where the Redlegs have gone over 20 runs in a game.
