Redlegs Can't Hold on

05/06/2013

The Redlegs looked to knock off a 2nd straight undefeated opponent when they faced the Fairborn A’s Sunday night at Athletes in Action in Xenia. While the Redlegs held the advantage for the first half of the game, the A’s were able to put to big innings together in the 5th and 6th that would eventually lead to their victory.

The Redlegs struck first in the top of the 1st inning. After two quick groundouts, Kyle Arend and Brandon Howard both reached on errors putting runners on the corners. Brandon Longacre then laced a line drive to center field to bring in Arend. After the A’s tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd, the Redlegs reclaimed the lead in the top of the 3rd. Matt Redman continued his hot start by leading off the inning with a single before Jacob Robinson singled. Kyle Arend then delivered a double to the gap in left center that drove both runners in. Kyle would later steal 3rd and then score on an overthrow making it a 4-1 game.

The only other Redleg run came in the 8th when Jacob Robinson started the inning with an infield single and moved to 2nd when Kyle Arend was hit by a pitch. Robinson was then able to score when the A’s attempted a pick off at 2nd resulting in the ball rolling into center field.

The A’s however were able to put 11 runs on the board in the 5th and 6th inning which would be enough for the win. The Redlegs will be at Athletes in Action again next Sunday to take on the Springfield Indians at 1:00.
