Redlegs Exit in Semi-Finals

The Redlegs and A’s met in the semi-finals of the Memorial Day Tournament on Sunday, the winner would go on to face the winner of the Rangers and Mariners game that was being played at the same time over at Howell Field. The Redlegs were hoping to build off of the dramatic come from behind walk off win from the day before, but the A’s had other ideas.

The game started pretty quietly as Don Parrish limited the A’s to 4 runs (3 earned) with 4 strikeouts over his first 5 innings pitched . The Redlegs were finally able to get some support for Parrish in the 6th frame when they scored 5 times to take a 5-4 lead. Matt Mattice jump started the inning with a double and Justin McCurdy followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Kevin Campbell then walked to load the bases before Matt Redman delivered an RBI single back up the middle. Jacob Robinson then drove a bases clearing double into the gap in left center field to bring 3 more runs across and tie the game at 4. Robinson would later score the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Arend.

After a 1-2-3 6th inning, the A’s finally broke through in the 7th when they pushed 5 runs across to take a 10-5 lead. The Redlegs tried to chip away at the lead in the 8th when Matt Redman singled, stole 2nd, and scored on a single from Jacob Robinson – but it wouldn’t be enough. The A’s piled 3 more on the in the 8th and would eventually go on to win this one 12-6.
