Redlegs Collapse Late, Fall to Sox

06/01/2013

After the Sox took down the division leading Royals on Tuesday night, the 2nd place Redlegs went to Rotary to take a crack at the 1-0 Sox. Much like the Redlegs most recent game against the A’s, it would be a closely fought battle until the Sox would take a commanding lead late in the game before eventually taking the win.

The Sox would strike first in the top of the 1st inning. After a leadoff flyout, Brandon Ward reached on an error and stole 2nd and 3rd base to get into scoring position. Don Parrish was then able to punch Chase Goulette out before walking Ian Huss. The next batter would drive a ball to the left field fence that would score Ward, but left fielder Kyle Arend and short stop Jacob Robinson teamed up to get Huss at the plate on a relay to Jackson Millard. The Redlegs got on the board right away in the bottom of the 1st inning. Jackson Millard doubled to lead off the inning and moved to 3rd when Kyle Arend singled. Jacob Robinson then doubled to bring both runs home and give the Redlegs a 2-1 lead.

The Redlegs were able to kill another rally in the 2nd when Parrish was able to induce a groundball 6-4-3 double play that would strand 2 runners. The Sox would then tie it up at 2-2 in the top of the 3rd, only to have the Redlegs reclaim in the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Brandon Howard started the inning with a single and eventually came around to score on a fielder’s choice ground out from Matt Mattice. The Sox would tie things up in the top of the 5th at 3-3 before putting things away in the 6th.

The Sox would use 4 hits and a couple of Redleg miscues to score 6 runs in the frame and take a 10-3 lead. They scored 2 more in the top of the 7th to make the final score 12-3.

The Redlegs will look to get back on track this weekend when they take on the Miami Valley Bats in a double header at Preble Shawnee High School.
