Weldon Fans 8 in First Win

Game 2 of the double header started off much differently than the lopsided affair that was game 1. Bats ace TJ Teets started strong against the Redlegs, racking up 7 strikeouts in the first 3 innings while Redlegs starter Kyle Weldon cruised through the Bats lineup in his MVABL debut on the mound.

The Redlegs got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd, Justin McCurdy doubled to start the inning and put a runner in scoring position but Teets recorded back-to-back strikeouts in an attempt to spoil a rally. Jacob Robinson then drove McCurdy in with a 2 out single to put the Redlegs up 1-0.

After the Bats tied things up in the top of the 4th, the Redlegs took the lead right back in the bottom half. Brandon Howard singled and was driven in on a double by Jackson Millard. The Redlegs then finally broke through on Teets in the 5th. Justin McCurdy and Kevin Campbell singled to begin the inning which led to a sacrifice bunt by Matt Redman to get both runners in scoring position. The Bats then elected to intentionally walk Robinson to load the bases and set up a possible inning ending double play. Kyle Arend then smoked a ball to 2nd that deflected off of the defender and led to 2 runs scoring. After a strikeout, Brandon Howard then belted a 3 run 2 out homerun to put the Redlegs up 7-1. They also added an insurance run in the 6th when Matt Morrison came off the bench and wasted no time getting a single, stealing 2nd base, and coming round to score on a double off the bat of Justin McCurdy.

Kyle Weldon went the distance, allowing only 1 run on 5 hits with 8 strikeouts along the way to his first victory and complete game in his first career start. With the double header sweep the Redlegs improve to 7-4 on the season. Next week they will take on the Kettering Royals (7-3) in a battle for 2nd place in the Buckeye Division behind the undefeated Beavercreek Sox.
