Rangers Snap Redlegs 3 Game Streak

07/31/2013

In the 12th edition of the Backyard Battle, the Redlegs squared off against the Rangers for the final time in the 2013 regular season on Tuesday night.

Shawn Schmitt was able to keep the hot hitting Redlegs team down in this one, as he allowed only 8 hits and 2 runs in the start. 8 hits is the fewest the Redlegs have been able to produce since they went up against the Beavercreek Sox on June 20th.

The Rangers did most of their damage right away, scoring 4 times in the bottom of the 1st. They scored 2 more in the bottom of the 3rd and were looking to add more as they had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. But, as has come to be a regular occurrence, Jared Bradley was able to rob a hit from Joe Becker as he got a good read off the bat and while sprinting toward the infield was able to make a great diving catch to end the inning. The Redlegs were able to get on the board in the 4th when Jackson Millard and Kyle Weldon each hit solo homeruns to cut the lead to 6-2. The Rangers would then score in the 4th, 5th innings to increase the lead to 8-2.

The Redlegs wouldn’t go down without a fight though. In the top of the 6th they were able to score 3 runs. Jared Bradley singled and Kyle Arend walked and both came around to score when Weldon bounced a ball off of the top of the fence in left field for a 2 run double. Brandon Howard then doubled in Weldon. The Rangers would then score an insurance run in the 6th to make the game 9-5. That’s where the scoring would end as the Redlegs went down quietly in the top of the 7th.
