The Redlegs and Indians met up for their only matchup in the
2014 regular season on Sunday in a double header at Miami
Middletown’s field in Monroe. The Indians controlled the
first game from the start, and ended up cruising to an 8-2
win behind two blasts from Brennen Glass.
The Redlegs couldn’t muster much offense support behind
starter Colby Clark. Clark’s first start a Redleg ended
after 6 innings, he struck out 6 and ended up taking the
loss. Zach Carroll pitched a scoreless 7th in relief.
The Indians put 2 runs on the board in the first when Glass
launched his first homerun of the day for the tribe and they
began to threaten early in the 2nd as well. After a leadoff
single, Matt Redman made a nice sliding catch in center to
make the first out before Clark notched a strikeout and a
groundout to short to end the frame. But in the 3rd Glass
struck again, launching one over the center field fence to
advance the lead to 4-0. After a ground out, the next
runner reached on a single and advanced to 2nd on a throwing
error, but was quickly cut down when Matt Mattice gunned him
down trying to take 3rd on a pop fly single into left by the
next batter. But another error allowed a 2nd Indians base
runner to get on base and extend the inning, which set up a
2 run single from Jacob Underwood. Colby then allowed only
4 more hits over the next 3 innings, getting a little help
from Jared Bradley in right. As he seems to do week in and
week out, Jared made another diving grab when tracking a fly
ball straight back toward the right field fence and snagging
the ball over his shoulder to take away what would certainly
have been a triple.
The Redlegs managed just 4 hits in the game, one from Kyle
Arend, two from Brandon Howard, and one from Brad Clark.
