Redlegs Sweep DH as Redman Goes the Distance

07/01/2014

The Redlegs had a slightly less nerve racking game in the nightcap as they cruised to an 8-5 victory with little drama near the end of the game. Matt Redman took the hill looking to keep his record unblemished, which he did as he tossed the complete game victory to improve to 3-0 on the year. Redman allowed 4 earned and struck out 7 in 7 innings of work.

The Slammers struck first when Eric Murphy drove Kevin Ashworth in for the game’s first run but the Redlegs took the lead right away in the bottom half. Jackson Millard was hit by a pitch with one out, Arend then singled, and then Howard drove Millard in with a double. Arend moved to third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brad Clark. The Slammers would tie things up in the 3rd though as a run was able to score on a passed ball.

The Redlegs would then put things out of reach, scoring 6 times over the 4th and 5th innings to go ahead 8-2. In the 4th, Brad Clark started things off with a 1 out double, James Robinson then singled, followed by an RBI single from Matt Morrison. Zach Carroll then delivered a timely double to the gap in right center to score Robinson and Morrison. The 5th inning started with a walk to Jacob Robinson, a single from Jackson Millard, and later a 1 out single from Brandon Howard to load the bases. Brad Clark then worked a walk to bring a run in followed by a 2 run single from James Robinson.

The Slammers didn’t go down without making any noise though. They pushed an unearned run across in the 6th and Rick Anderson smacked a 2 run home run in the 7th before Redman was able to finish things off with a hard groundball to Millard at 2nd who made a nifty head high snag on a bad bounce to record the final out.
