Matt Redman took the mound in game 2 looking to improve upon
his 3-0 start in 2014 and he did just that. Redman cruised
through 6 innings of work where he allowed only 5 hits,
struck out 5, and allowed only 2 runs both of which were
unearned.
The Braves struck first again in the nightcap, this time
putting up 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st. But the Redleg
offense rallied once again. Just like in game 1, the Brave
lead would last for only a half an inning. The Redlegs
scored 4 times in the top of the 2nd and twice more in the
3rd. The 2nd started with walks to James Robinson and Matt
Morrison and then a single by Matt Mattice to load the
bases. Game 1 starter Zach Carroll then delivered a bases
clearing triple into the right center gap to give his team
the lead. Carroll would later be singled in by Jacob
Robinson to make it a 4-2 game. In the 2nd, Brandon Howard
took a free pass to 1st and rolled all the way around to
score on a double by Brad Clark. Clark would then score on
a single from James Robinson.
The Redlegs played add on in the 5th. Brad Clark, the cleat
less wonder, would lead off with a single and later score
his 6th run on the day when he took home on a fielder’s
choice. One more run would score in the 7th when Jared
Bradley drove in James Robinson who had drawn his 3rd walk
in the game to start the inning.
Robinson then elected to lift Redman and give the 7th to
Kyle Arend for his MVABL debut on the mound. The heart of
the Brave order spoiled Arend’s appearance however. The
Braves put together 4 hits and a walk, highlighted by 1st
overall draft pick Ryan Schlater’s 2 run double. With the
score at 9-5 and a runner on Brad Clark came on to put out
the fire. Dylan Wittman greeted Clark by muscling a single
over short stop to allow Schlater to score. Clark then
settled in and punched out the next two batters to end the
game at a final tally of 9-6.
