The Redlegs took a beating on Thursday night in their first
match of the 2014 season against the Dayton Rangers. Shawn
Schmitt kept the Redlegs quiet offensively, allowing only 3
runs to the home club.
Things looked bleak right away as the Redlegs unexpectedly
only had 8 players at game time. Luckily the team had Andy
Evans on hand for a tryout and he was promptly signed and
thrown right into the fire. Andy will look to contribute on
the mound for the Redlegs down the stretch into the 2nd half
of the season.
The Redlegs only managed 5 in the game, 2 of which came off
the bat of Matt Mattice who tripled, singled, and stole a
base on the night. A majority of the offensive output came
from Jared Bradley who drove 2 runs in on a double in the
3rd inning.
The Redlegs roller coaster season will continue on Thursday
7/17 against the 10-5 Fairborn Athletics at Howell Field.
