The Redlegs swept a double header from the Ohio Mariners on Sunday, winning the first game 8-4 and taking the nightcap by a score of 7-6.

After scoring in each of the first 3 innings, the Redlegs cruised on with a comfortable lead throughout the game. In the 1st, Matt Morrison walked and stole 2nd base. Jacob Robinson then drove a ball back up the middle to plate the first run of the game. In the 2nd inning Matt Mattice hit a one out single and stole 2nd. He moved to 3rd when James Robinson singled. With two outs, Kyle Breeden ran for Robinson as a courtesy runner and stole 2nd which enabled Mattice to take home as the ball kicked away from the 2nd basemen on the throw down.

The Redlegs opened things up in the 3rd by scoring 3 more times to take a 5-0 lead. Morrison drew another walk and scored on a double from Jackson Millard. Jacob Robinson then singled to put runners on the corners. Brad Clark then scored Millard with a groundball to the right side followed by an RBI single by Kyle Arend who made his first appearance after a fractured shoulder blade that he suffered only 3 weeks prior.

Three more runs in the top of the 7th extended the lead to 8-0. Justin McCurdy got his first at bat of the season after a pre-season knee injury and he wasted no time getting back in the action as he drove a one out single into center field. Morrison and Millard then followed McCurdys single to load the bases. Kevin Campbell, who relieved McCurdy as a pinch runner then scored from 3rd on a wild pitch. Jacob Robinson then drove a ball into the gap in left field to score 2 more runs to finish off the scoring.

On the other side Matt Redman cruised through the first 6 innings. He allowed only no runs and only 3 hits over that span, but the M’s finally got to him in the 7th. They scored 4 runs, 3 earned in the final frame, but it wasn’t enough to mount any comeback. Redman ended the game with his 6th strikeout as he improved his record to 5-1 on the year.
