Sox Spoil Redleg Streak

08/11/2014

The Beavercreek Sox spoiled the Redlegs franchise best 6 game win streak by winning 11-5 in the first game of a split double header for the Redlegs. The game was close throughout the game, but the Sox were able to outlast the surging Redlegs by scoring 5 late runs that would seal the game.

Jacob Robinson led the top of the 1st off with a double and Jackson Millard then walked to put two runners on with no out in the top of the 1st inning. Robinson was then forced out at 3rd on a fielder’s choice for the first out. Brandon Howard then was able to reach on an error which also scored Millard for the game’s first run. The Sox tied things right back up in the bottom half of the 1st, but starter Kevin Campbell was able to leave the go ahead runner stranded at 2nd by ending the inning with a ground ball to first.

The Sox then took a 4-1 lead by scoring 3 time in the 3rd, but this time the Redlegs answered a half inning late by scoring 3 of their own in the top of the 4th. The two out rally was started when Matt Mattice doubled. Justin McCurdy then singled followed by a walk by Zach Carroll to load the bases. Matt Redman then sliced a bases clearing triple down the right field line. The Sox would then take a 6-4 lead after scoring twice in the 5th.

In the 6th the Redlegs cut into the deficit and made it a one run game when Brad Clark walked to start the inning, moved to 2nd on a balk and scored on a single from Justin McCurdy.

Andy Evans tossed 1 2/3 innings and racked up 4 K’s in relief of Campbell but the Redleg offense wasn’t able to put anything else together over the rest of the game.
