Deluge of Hits and Sloppy Defense Sink Redlegs

06/16/2015

The Redlegs looked to improve to 9-2 in game 2 of the double header against the Royals. Matt Redman took the hill to try to continue to keep the Royal bats at bay.

In the first, the Redlegs struck first again. Matt Morrison led off game 2 in the same way he led off game 1, with a walk and a stolen base. He came around to score on a single by Jacob Robinson.

The Royals tied it in their half of the first, touching up Redman for a pair of doubles.

The Redlegs bats went quiet again while the flood gates opened on the other side. The Redlegs usually solid defense gave the Royals multiple extra outs. When the dust settled, the Royals chased Redman after an inning an two- thirds, scored 10 unearned runs and 12 runs overall to blow the game wide open. They tacked on two more unearned runs in the 3rd and one more in the 5th for a total of 13 unearned runs.

The Redlegs tried to claw their way back in in the later innings. Some wildness from Royal pitching allowed 4 runs in the 5th. Kyle Arend hit a no doubter of a homerun in the 6th to draw the Redlegs a little closer and another bout with wildness from the Royals walked the bases loaded for Jackson Millard who sent one over the left wall for a grand slam that put the Redleg scoring at 10. But the Royals took what the Redlegs gave them with an 18 hit attack to go along with the free outs to put 18 runs on the board and send the Redlegs to their 3rd loss on the year.
