Redlegs Bats Go Cold in 4-1 Loss

07/02/2015

The Redlegs took on the Mad River Machine last weekend looking to rebound from a disappointing showing in the nightcap of a double header against the Royals the previous week. Though the defense played much better, this time it would be the normally potent offense of the Redlegs that would let them down.

Kevin Campbell took the mound for the Redlegs and would attempt to repeat his opening day performance against the Machine where he allowed 1 run on 5 hits and struck out 9 over 9 innings of work. Campbell certainly pitched well enough to take another from the Machine, this time allowing 9 hits and 4 runs (3 earned) over 7 innings of work but the offense could only muster 1 run of support for the staff ace.

The Machine threatened to get on the board in the first after a lead off single, and then what looked like would be a bloop single between 2nd and center field. But center fielder Jacob Robinson was able to make a nice sliding grab to record the innings first out. Two more singles loaded the bases before Campbell recorded two straight K’s to end the threat.

The Machine would end up striking first in the 3rd inning scoring 3 runs (2 earned) to take a 3-0 lead. They looked to add on in the 4th but a potential rally was stopped in its tracks when Jared Bradley made a full out diving snag in right center field on a 1 out line drive. A pop fly to left field would end the inning two batters later.

The Redlegs lone run came in the bottom of the 4th when Jackson Millard singled and eventually came around to score on a fielding error.
