Redlegs Walk Off to Snap Losing Streak

07/06/2015

The 2nd game of the double dip would come down to an exciting finish as the Redlegs walked off to victory, ending their 4 game losing streak.

Kevin Campbell took the hill and turned in another great outing against another very strong offense. He went the distance as he allowed only 4 hits, 3 runs while punching out two batters. Nothing got passed Campbell while he was on the mound either, he made 3 outstanding defensive plays in the game, including starting one double play at a critical moment in the contest.

Things looked a little bleak out of the gate for the Redlegs when Brandon Riley smashed a solo home run leading off the game to make it a 1-0 lead. Campbell wasn’t fazed, he struck the next two batters out and induced an ending inning pop up.

The Redlegs tied it up in the bottom half when Matt Morrison led things off with a single, Millard was hit by a pitch, and Jacob Robinson singled to load the bases. But starter Shawn Schmitt buckled down and was able to get a pop up, a ground out (RBI) and a fly out to center field.

The 2nd went smoothly for Campbell as he tossed 2 straight ground outs, the 2nd right back to himself that he made a nice twisting and jumping snag on, and a pop out.

The Redlegs took the lead in the 3rd when Jared Bradley started things off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Robinson. Mike Hartman blasted his first home run in the 4th to give the Redlegs a 3-1 lead. The Rangers might have threatened in the 5th if not for a nice 1-6-3 double play. The leadoff batter walked before Campbell snagged a hard come backer and fired to 2nd where Matt Morrison turned the double play as he fired on to Arend at first base.

But the Rangers would tie things up at 3 in the 6th which led to a heart pumping 7th inning. Campbell went back out in the 7th and cruised right through, allowing only one baserunner via the walk. Then in the bottom half the Redlegs started off with a fly out and a strike out before catcher Jackson Millard walked. Jacob Robinson then worked a walk bringing the winning run 90 feet closer to home. Brandon Howard then stepped in and immediately fell behind 0-2 before lining the 3rd pitch he saw into left center field which scored the run and sent the Redlegs home winners.
