Redlegs Offense Stays Quiet in 6-3 Loss

08/04/2015

The Redlegs dropped their 2nd straight as they couldn’t capitalize with runners in scoring position throughout a 6-3 loss to the Miami Valley Thunder. The Redlegs would leave 9 men stranded on the day.

Matt Mattice took the hill and, despite a rocky 1st inning, he turned in a nice outing that kept his club within striking distance for the games entirety. Mattice gave up 3 in the first, but settled in to allow no runs and only 3 base runners in the following 4 frames. Backstop Mike Hartman would lend an arm to the effort as he cut down 2 base stealers in that span, one in the 2nd at 2nd base and one in the 5th at 3rd base.

The Redlegs chipped away at the 3-0 deficit by scoring once in the 2nd and once in the 3rd. Brad Clark singled to lead off the 2nd and eventually came around to score on a passed ball. Jacob Robinson started the 3rd with a double and was plated right away on a double by Jackson Millard. The only other run the Redlegs could muster on the day would come in the final frame when James Robinson started things off with a walk. Mattice came on to run for Robinson and quickly stole 2nd before being driven in on a single by Matt Morrison.
