Redlegs Drop Nightcap to Machine

04/12/2016

After a tough 21-6 loss to the Rangers, the Redlegs rounded out a forgettable opening day weekend by losing 20-12 to the Mad River Machine.

Early on it looked like the Redlegs might have been on the wrong side of another run rule as the Machine offense put 11 runs on the board through the first 3 innings. But 2 runs in the 2nd, 1 run in each the 3rd and 4th, and then a 7 run 5th brought the Redlegs even with the Machine at 11. Jackson Millard, Kyle Arend, and Kyle Weldon each had a pair of RBI and Matt Mattice plated 1 in the biggest inning of the young Redlegs season. Millard brought another run home in the top of the 6th to give the Redlegs a 12 to 11 lead.

That lead vanished immediately. The Machine responded with a 5 run 6th and a 4 run 7th to take comfortable lead. The Redlegs went quietly through the final 3 frames, recording only 3 hits down the stretch. They will look to get back on track in their next match up against the Royals on April 17th in Monroe at 1:00pm.
