06/30/2016

The Redlegs offense came to life in the second game of the afternoon. They took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st and would keep the lead throughout the remainder of the game as they went on to win 9-5.

Jacob Robinson singled to start the game for the Redlegs and moved to 3rd on a double by Jackson Millard. After Kyle Arend was hit by a pitch, James Robison delivered a 2 run single to left field to get the Redlegs on the board. The Knights clawed back in the top of the 2nd. After Jacob Robinson stole a leadoff hit with a diving catch in right center field, the Knights came through with back to back singles followed by a Redlegs error to give them a run. The Redlegs answered in the bottom half with 2 more to extend the lead to 4-1. Joey Watson singled followed by a walk to Mike Hartman. Jared Bradley would later single in a run and the 2nd run would come around to score on a Knights fielding error.

Things then quieted down until he 5th inning as Aaron Carmack continued his fantastic rookie campaign by keeping the Knights offense at bay. Carmack went 6 strong innings allowing 6 hits and fanned 8 Knights hitters en route to his 3rd win of the season.

The Knights did push a run across in the top of the 5th to inch the score closer at 4-2, but the Redlegs would then put the nail in the coffin in the bottom half. Brandon Howard walked and James Robinson singled to put 2 runners on with no outs. After a strike out, Joey Watson blasted his 1st home run of the season to bring 3 runs home and extend the lead to 7-2. Mike Hartman then singled and moved to 3rd on a single from Matt Mattice. Mattice then swiped 2nd and Hartman alertly scored on the throw down to 2nd base.

The Redlegs tacked one more insurance run on in the 6th when Jacob Robinson was hit by a pitch, stole 2nd, and scored on a single from Kyle Arend.

The Knights attempted a late rally off of Redlegs reliever Matt Mattice in the 7th. After a hit batter, a walk, and a 2 run single, Mattice settled down and retired the next 3 batters with 2 ground outs and a punch out end the game.

Standing at 7-5 the Redlegs will take on the 1st place South Dayton Slammers (7-1) on Thursday night at Action Sports Center in Dayton at 7:00pm.
