The Redlegs and Kettering Royals met up for a soggy
double header on Sunday afternoon at Howell Field in
Dayton.
The visiting Redlegs took a commanding lead in the top of
the 1st inning. Walks to Jacob Robinson and Jackson
Millard put runners on for Kyle Weldon who promptly
delivered a ground rule double that hopped the fence in
left center field and scored 2 runs. Brandon Howard then
singled which moved Weldon over to 3rd, and he then
scored on a sacrifice fly from Brad Clark. Matt Morrison
would tack on the 4th run of the inning by driving Howard
in with a single.
The Royals scraped together a run of their own in the
bottom half of the 1st off of Redleg starter Kevin
Campbell when Joey Cherry was hit by a pitch to start the
inning and scored when Derek Barnhart doubled to left
center field.
The Redlegs added to their lead when James Robinson drove
a run home in the 3rd with a single.
They put 3 more runs on the board in the 5th, highlighted
by a 2-run double off the bat of Brad Clark.
Meanwhile Kevin Campbell settled in after the 1st inning
and cruised through the Royals lineup allowing only 2
hits through 5 innings. He fanned 3 Royals hitters on
his way to earning his 3rd victory of the season.
Already up 8-1, the Redlegs played add on in the top of
the 6th inning. Jared Bradley walked, Greg Pfeiffer was
hit by a pitch and Jacob Robinson walked to load up the
bases. Bradley would then score on a wild pitch before
Jackson Millard doubled home another run. Kyle Weldon
then stroked his 2nd double of the game to bring in 2
more runs, bringing the Redleg lead to 12-1.
The Royals tried to break through in the bottom of the
6th off of the Redleg bullpen, starting the inning with 2
hit batters and a single, but a 6-4-3 double play and fly
out to left field limited the damage to only 3 runs.
Both teams went quietly in the 7th leading to the 12-4
victory for the Redlegs.
