The last time the Redlegs and Machine met in 2016 was way
back on opening day and resulted in a 20-12 defeat for
the Redlegs. They would make up for it though as they
swept the late season double header from the Machine on
Sunday July 24th.
The Redlegs sent 2016 All-Star Aaron Carmack to the mound
for game 1 and he turned in another fantastic outing,
keeping the Machine offense off balance over a complete
game effort in which he earned the victory. Carmack
allowed 7 hits, fanned 4 batters and allowed 2 earned
runs in the start.
The Machine drew first blood as they took a 1-0 lead in
the top of the 3rd, but the Redlegs would answer
immediately and do most of their damage in the bottom
half. After a strikeout to start the inning, Jacob
Robinson was plunked by a pitch and Jackson Millard
singled. Kyle Arend then hit a sacrifice fly to score
Robinson and bring the Redlegs even with the Machine at
1-1. Brandon Howard then walked before Joey Watson
blasted a 2-out 3-run bomb to put the Redlegs up 4-1.
The Redlegs tacked on an insurance run in the 4th when
Matt Mattice led off the inning with a single and later
was driven in on a base hit by Jared Bradley.
Patrick Beyerle homered for the Machine in the 6th, but
it wasn’t enough to bring the Machine back as the Redlegs
would end up on top 5-2.
