Campbell Earns 5th Victory in 9-3 Win

07/27/2016

After Carmack dazzled in game 1, Kevin Campbell would try to follow suit in game 2 and keep pace with the rookie for the team lead in wins. Not only did Campbell follow suit, he would go 6 innings allowing only 3 hits and 1 run while punching out 3 Machine hitters as he cruised to his 5th victory of the season.

While Campbell was dealing, the offense of the Redlegs would offer up plenty of support to their veteran ace. They put 5 runs on the board in the 2nd inning granting some early breathing room after the close contest that was game 1. Joey Watson started a string of 4 consecutive hits to start the 2nd inning. Kyle Weldon followed, and then Brandon Howard knocked in the first run with a single. James Robinson then loaded the bases with a base hit and Matt Mattice drove a run home with a sacrifice fly. Mike Hartman then singled to re-load the bases before Jared Bradley sacrificed a run in with a fly ball. Jacob Robinson drove the final run home in the inning with a base hit.

Things were then quiet for both sides until the 5th when the Machine finally got to Campbell. Tyler Bundy doubled with one out and later scored.

The Redlegs answered loudly in the top of the 6th. Matt Mattice doubled to start the inning, Mike Hartman walked, and Jacob Robinson later walked to load the bases with one out. Jackson Millard then walked a run home. After a pop out, Joey Watson punched a 2 out double to bring two more runs around which put the Redlegs up 9-0.

The Machine were able to push 2 more runs across in the 7th but it wouldn’t be enough to mount any kind of comeback and the game would end with the Redlegs victorious by a final score of 9-3.
