Boars Use 5 Run 5th to Outlast Redlegs

04/24/2017

The 2nd game of double headers have not been kind to the Camden Club so far this year (0-2) as they turned around and dropped the nightcap to the Boars 8-4.

Things got off to a good start for the Redlegs as they took a quick 3-0 lead right out of the gate. In the bottom of the 1st Jacob Robinson started the inning with a walk and a stolen base and scored on a base hit by Kyle Arend. In the 2nd Mike Hartman started things out with a hit and Matt Mattice followed him with a base knock to score Hartman. Eric Williams later drove in Mattice in his first at bat of the year.

The Boars plated a couple of runs in the top of the 3rd to inch closer and cut the lead to one run at 3-2. The Redlegs were able to crawl ahead a little farther as they scored one in the bottom of the 4th. Matt Mattice continued his scorching day as he led off the inning with a double and was driven in by Nick Davis.

The top of the 5th is when disaster struck for the Redlegs. The Boars pounded out 4 hits and with the help of several defensive errors by the Redlegs were able to push 5 runs across to take a 7-4 lead. They even added on another unearned run in the top of the 6th to add breathing room to their lead, making it 8-4. The Redlegs did threaten in the 6th and 7th frames, but they left 4 runners stranded and were not able to mount any sort of comeback.

Next up is the 1st place Rangers on Sunday April 30th at 1:00pm.
