Campbell Notches First Win in Brilliant Debut

The Redlegs were able to even out their record at 2-2 with a game one victory over the Wild Boars on Sunday. Kevin Campbell made his 2017 debut on the hill and was outstanding right from the word go. Campbell tossed all 7 innings, allowed only 5 hits and 1 run (unearned) in the complete game win.

The Redlegs struck first in the bottom of the 2nd when Mike Hartman laced a leadoff triple into the right center gap. Matt Mattice then knocked Hartman in with a single. Boars starter Brandon Lucas then retired the next 3 batters in order to end the frame. Camden was then able to extend the lead as they scored 3 more in the top of the 3rd. Jacob Robinson started the inning with a base hit and stole 2nd. Matt Morrison then drew a walk followed by an RBI single by Kyle Arend. Lucas then buckled down and recorded back-to-back strikeouts, which brought Hartman back to the plate with 2 outs and 2 on. Hartman delivered a 2 run single to give the Redlegs a 4- 0 lead. The Redlegs added on again in the top of the 4th, scoring once more to increase the lead to 5-0. Nick Davis began the inning with a hit and Matt Redman later walked to put two runners on the bases. Jacob Robinson then drove Davis in with a base hit. Lucas was again able to work out of a jam, retiring the next two batters to escape the inning.

Campbell then hit the only bump in his outing in the bottom of the 4th as the Boars used a hit, a walk, and a Redleg miscue to push score their only run of the game.

The Redlegs got a couple of insurance runs in the top of the 7th. Kyle Arend was hit by a pitch followed by a walk to Brandon Howard. James Robinson then worked a walk to load the bases with one out. After a strikeout, Matt Mattice smacked a 2-run single to put his team up 7- 1.

Chris Musick doubled for the Boars in the bottom of the 7th, but Campbell was otherwise able to close out the game on a quiet note.
