Arend Goes Deep, Henry Notches 1st Win

06/13/2017

After the back and forth game 1, game 2 turned out to be quite a bit different. This game featured a great pitching duel between the Rangers Ryan Kemp and Redlegs newcomer Tyler Henry. Henry, making his MVABL debut, went 5 strong innings allowing only 3 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out 4 Rangers batters in the win. Kemp tossed 5 innings as well, striking out 6 Redlegs batters and allowed only 1 baserunner after the 1st inning. That 1st inning though is when the Redlegs were able to do enough damage to come away with the win.

Jonmarc Lippinoctt experienced a little deja vu in the top of the 1st when he shot another hard liner into right center field, only for Jacob Robinson to track it down with another diving catch.

Robinson then started the game with a single into right field that made its way to the fence, which led to Jake cruising into 3rd. Mattice then drove Robinson in and reached safely at 1st due to a Rangers fielding error. Mattice scored on a double by Kyle Arend and next Mike Hartman scored Arend on a base hit. James Robinson then finished off the strong start for the Redlegs by roping a double to score Hartman.

The Rangers put 2 on the board in the 3rd with the help of 2 errors on the Redlegs. Ben Schooler recorded a sacrifice fly in the inning.

In the top of the 5th, Cooper Nolte doubled with one out and stole 3rd base to put a much needed run in scoring position for the Rangers. With the infield drawn in, the next batter hit a grounder to Matt Morrison at shortstop. With the runner trying to score on the play, Morrison made a picture perfect pick and throw to nail the runner and save a run.

Matt Mattice took over on the hill for the Redlegs in the top of the 6th and put up 2 strong innings of work to nail down his first career save. Mattice allowed no hits in the outing.

Kyle Arend added some cushion for the Redlegs in the bottom of the 6th by blasting his first home run of the season, which put Camden up by the final score of 5-2. With the double-header sweep, the Redlegs improve to 8-3 on the season and now stand alone in first place. Next, they will take on the South Dayton Slammers under the lights at Athletes in Action in Xenia. The game will be on Thursday 6/15 at 7:00pm.
