Henry Ks 13 as Redlegs Rally Late in 7-3 Win

The Redlegs improved to 10-5 after scraping out a win over the Wright Knights on Sunday at Madison High School. The game was tightly contested through the first 7 innings before the Redlegs put together a 4-run rally in the bottom of the 8th to cement the victory.

Camden sent rookie southpaw Tyler Henry to the mound for his 2nd start of the 2017 season and he followed up his strong debut with another fantastic outing. This time around, Tyler went all 9 innings striking out 13 batters while allowing only 3 runs in the complete game effort.

The Knights controlled the first half of the game as they took an early lead of 2-0 in the top of the first inning. It looked like the Knights might get something started in the 3rd as Alan Hooper laced a hard grounder to 3rd with one out, but Mike Hartman made a slick diving snag and fired over to first just in time to record the out.

After the Knights extended their lead to 3-0 in the top half of the 4th, the Redlegs finally got the offense going in the bottom half. Nick Davis walked with one out and was later driven in by Mike Hartman with a 2 out double. Brad Clark followed with an RBI single to cut the Knights lead to 3-2.

James Robinson made a fine play at 1st to start the 6th inning when Thomas Hughes hit a bouncer to Robinson’s right. He was able to snare it and just beat Hughes who came in head first in the race to the bag.

The Redlegs then tied things up in the bottom of the 6th. Jacob Robinson singled to start the inning and moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Davis. Mike Hartman then came up big again with 2 outs as he singled in Robinson from 2nd base. Matt Redman then put the Redlegs up with some clutch 2 out hitting of his own as he drove in Adam Parks who had a pinch hit single earlier in the inning.

Leading 4-3, the Redlegs gave Henry a comfortable cushion in the bottom of the 8th as they piled 4 more runs on to extend the lead to 8-3. Jacob Robinson reached on an error to start the inning before Nick Davis reached 1st on a bunt single. Kyle Arend then swatted a 2 run double and later Adam Parks singled in the game’s final run.

Henry allowed a leadoff single in the top of the 9th, but proceeded to record 3 straight strikeouts to end the game.

Next up for the Redlegs will be the Kettering Royals in a double header at Madison High School on 7/9 at 1:00 and 4:00.
