Game 2 turned out to be a close game as well, but in a
different way. Rather than runs coming at a premium,
this one turned into an offensive shootout as the teams
combined for 26 hits and 23 runs.
The Redlegs looked primed to sweep the double header as
they jumped ahead 7-2 after the first 4 innings. In the
2nd Mike Hartman started the inning with a triple and
then scored on a passed ball. Adam Parks and James
Robinson then both worked walks followed by an RBI single
by Ryan Gross and a 2-run single by Matt Redman. They
then scored 2 ore in the top of the 3rd on a 2 out rally
started by a single by Ryan Gross and a walk by Matt
Redman. Matt Morrison then doubled home both runs to
give the Redlegs a 6-0 advantage.
The Boars then chipped away in the bottom of the 3rd,
plating 2 runs highlighted by a solo home run from Billy
Sweatt.
The Redlegs got one back in the top of the 4th when Adam
Parks hit a sacrifice fly to score Matt Mattice who had
singled earlier in the inning.
However, that’s when the wheels fell off. The Wild Boars
roared to life and scored 11 runs in the final 2 frames
to take a commanding 13-7 lead. The Redlegs were able to
start a rally in the 7th, highlighted by a 2-run single
by Brandon Howard, but otherwise the Boars were able to
stave off the comeback and hold on for the victory.
