The Redlegs and Machine met up for a double dip on July
1st in their first matchup of the 2018 season. These two
clubs have proven to be evenly matched in recent years,
as the Redlegs have taken 6 of the last 10 games. The
results on this day wouldn’t differ much, as each team
would eventually walk away with a victory in the double
header split.
The Machine took a quick lead in game 1, scoring twice in
the top of the 1st inning with the help of a Redleg
defensive miscue and a double from Paul Wilson. That’s
where the scoring stopped for the Machine though, as
Aaron Carmack buckled down and was dominant over the
remainder of the game. Carmack went the distance in this
one, earning his 3rd complete game victory of the season
when he allowed only 7 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out
9 against the high-powered Machine offense as he
continues to build another solid resume for Cy Young
consideration.
The Redlegs got on the board in the 2nd when Saige
Micomonaco doubled with one out and later scored on a
single by Adam Parks, the first of three hits for Parks
in the game. They then tied the game in the 3rd when
Matt Morrison and Jacob Robinson each singled before both
scored on a base hit by Mike Hartman.
The game stayed tied for a few innings before the Redlegs
finally broke it open in the bottom of the 6th. Kyle
Arend and Mike Hartman each doubled to start the inning
before Joey Watson banged a 3 run bomb off the left field
foul pole. Brandon Howard then singled and later scored
on a base hit by Matt Redman.
The Machine threatened in the bottom of the 7th as they
got two runners aboard, but Carmack was able to induce a
pop fly to shallow center field that Jacob Robinson was
able to snare with a sliding catch to end the game.
