Redlegs Fall Flat in Nightcap

07/21/2018

The Machine got their revenge in game two as they would use a big 6th inning to run away with a commanding victory.

Scoring was hard to come by in the early going as Redlegs Rookie Luke Campbell went toe-to-toe with Machine ace Andrew Madlinger. Campbell got some help from the Redlegs gold glove 3rd basemen Mike Hartman in the 3rd inning as Mike recorded all three outs in the inning, including a dazzling diving snag in which he fired a seed to 2nd base to nail the advancing runner by a hair for the final out of the frame.

Brandon Howard then got the Redlegs on the board by smacking his 1st home run of the season, sending a shot to center field that bounced off the top and over the fence.

The Machine then took a lead that they would not relinquish in the 4th, highlighted by back-to-back doubles by Kevin Reynolds and Eric Reardon. The wheels fell off entirely in the 6th as the Machine piled up 9 runs, Paul Wilson homered in the inning.

Trailing 14-1 in their final at bat, the Redlegs tried to make things respectable. Mike Hartman and Joey Watson each singled to start the inning, then Saige Micomonaco blasted his team leading 4th home run of the season to bring the score to 14-4. The comeback bid was short lived though, as three of the next four batters struck out.

These two squads will meet up again on Thursday night (July 5th) for their final regular season meeting.
