The Redlegs held on for a tight win over the Wright
Knights on Sunday the 15th, notching a 7-6 win in a back-
and-forth game.
Early on it looked like it was going to be all Redlegs as
they scored 3 runs, all with two outs, in the top of the
1st inning. Kyle Arend doubled and scored when Mike
Hartman sent long line drive over the right center field
fence, his first homerun of the season. Joey Watson
followed up with deep drive of his own making it back-to-
back bombs.
Hartman added another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the
3rd, giving the Redlegs the 3-0 edge.
Connor Bishop got the Knights on the board in the bottom
of the 3rd with a run scoring single. Nick Taylor drove
in a run in the 5th for the Knights, cutting the Redleg
lead to 3-2.
Aaron Carmack then exited the game with the lead in the
5th inning. He allowed only 1 earned run and struck out
6 Knight hitters while scattering 5 hits in the effort.
The Knights greeted the Redleg bullpen with 4 runs over
the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings. Trailing 5-4 in the top
of the 8th, the Redlegs were able to get back into it as
they scored twice to take another narrow lead. Richard
Navratil started the inning but exited after recording
the first out of the inning. The Redlegs then got a
single from Brandon Howard, a walk from Nick Davis, and
Adam Parks was plunked to load the bases. Both Howard
and Davis were able to score on wild pitches giving the
Redlegs a 6-5 lead.
The Knights knotted things up in the bottom of the 8th
off of Eric Williams, who was making his first appearance
of the 2018 season.
The Redlegs were able to take the 7-6 lead in the top of
the 9th. Jacob Robinson started the inning with a single
and moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Arend.
After a ground out, Joey Watson ripped a grounder to
third and was able to reach on an errant throw to 1st,
which allowed Robinson to score what would eventually be
the game winning run.
Williams nailed down the win in the bottom of the 9th in
a solid return after limited action in 2017 and early
2018.
