The Redlegs met up with the Royals for an early 10am
start at Carleton Davidson stadium in Springfield this
weekend and things looked bleak early on.
Redlegs ace Aaron Carmack got off to a bit of a sleepy
start but was quickly awoken by the Royals first 5
hitters recording hits and before the Redlegs could blink
the Royals had a 5-0 lead.
Trailing early with Carmack on the mound put Camden’s
offense in an unusual spot, but they responded by scoring
20 unanswered runs en route to a 20-5 run-rule victory.
After the first inning, Carmack tossed 4 straight
scoreless, racking up 8 strike outs and only 1 base
runner. Kevin Campbell added a perfect 6th inning,
striking out two in his 2nd pitching appearance of the
season.
Brandon Howard led the offense going 3-3 with a vintage
towering blast that sailed over the left field fence.
Howard drove in 4 in the game. Ryan Gross added 3 hits
and 3 RBI, Joey Watson also had 3 hits and a couple of
runs batted in. Jared Bradley and Adam Parks each added
2 hits and 2 RBI, Parks also swiped 3 bags in the game.
Aaron Carmack doesn’t often swing the bat, but as the
Redlegs were light on players at game time he stepped up
to the plate and tried to help himself out with the
stick. He did just that, going 2-3 with a triple and 2
runs scored.
The Redlegs now stand in 3rd place at 13-7 with a double
header matchup looming against the Dayton Rangers (12-9).
