Game two didn’t have the back-and-forth allure of game
one, but it certainly wasn’t without it’s drama as both
clubs pumped out a total of 29 runs.
The Redlegs took a commanding lead right out of the gate
as they scored 5 times in the top of the 1st. Adam Parks
walked to start the game and quickly swiped 2nd base.
Nick Davis then singled Parks in for the game’s first
run. Kyle Arend then walked, and later Mike Hartman
brought a run in with a sacrifice fly. Still with no
outs, Joey Watson socked a 2 run double and then scored
on a double by Brandon Howard.
After the Royals took a run back in the bottom of the
1st, the Redlegs scored again in the top of the 2nd.
Kyle Arend doubled and Mike Hartman knocked him in with
an RBI single.
The Royals scored again in the bottom half, staying in
striking distance as they trailed 6-2 after two innings.
Both teams went scoreless in the 3rd, but Nick Davis
helped out the cause with a nimble snag at 3rd base as he
moved toward the 3rd base line and snared a hard line
drive off the bat of Ryan Callison.
Arend and Hartman combined to give the Redlegs another
run in the 4th when Arend hit a leadoff triple and
Hartman grounded out to bring home the run.
The Royals stormed back in the bottom of the 4th, powered
by a Ryan Callison grand slam as they put 5 runs on the
board to tie the game at 7. The Redlegs turend to Nick
Davis to stop the bleeding and he was able to get out of
the inning, but the Royals scored two more on Davis in
the 5th, taking a 9-7 lead.
Camden ended the drama in a 6th inning that saw 9 Redleg
baserunners cross the plate. The inning started with
consecutive base hits by Kyle Arend, Mike Hartman, Joey
Watson (RBI), and Brandon Howard. Saige Micomonaco then
walked in a run which brought Ryan Gross to the plate.
Gross smoked a line drive into left field that made its
way through the wickets of the Royals left fielder and
Gross was able to hustle all the way around the bases to
bring everyone home. Jacob Robinson then reached on an
error, Adam Parks walked, and Nick Davis scored both
runners with a triple. Arend scored Davis with an RBI
groundout.
Leading 16-9, Davis proceeded to allow only one more run
as he struck out 6 Royals as he finished out the game and
earned the victory in relief. The Redlegs added a little
insurance in the 7th to a 2 run triple by Kyle Arend.
Kyle finished the game with 4 hits, including a double
and two triples.
The sweep sets up a rematch of the 2017 MVABL finals as
the Redlegs and Slammers will once again square off for
the title. This time on 9/23 at Gastineau Field at
1:00pm and 4:00pm.
