The Redlegs picked up their first victory of the 2019
campaign as they piled up 22 runs on the Dayton Indians,
the MVABL’s newest club.
Kevin Campbell got the nod for Camden and got off to a
bit of a shaky start in the top of the 1st. Indians
lead-off man Alan Dotson was hit by a pitch and later
scored when Aaron Holmes launched a 1-out bomb over the
left field fence.
Trailing 2-0, the Redlegs answered in the bottom of the
1st. They were able to push 3 runs across the plate
highlighted by RBI base hits by Jacob Robinson and Saige
Micomonaco.
After a scoreless top half by the Indians in the 2nd, the
Redlegs went on the offensive in their turn at the plate.
They put 20 runs on the board in the frame, sending 21
straight hitters to the plate without recording an out.
Jacob Robinson, Matt Morrison, and James Robinson each
had 3 RBI in the frame, Saige Micomonaco and Kyle Arend
each added 2-run doubles, and Mike Hartman drove in a
pair of runs.
Campbell put things on cruise control after giving up the
homerun in the 1st. He retired the final 8 batters he
faced as he picked up the rare 3 inning complete game
effort victory. He allowed only the 1 hit in the game.
Matt Mattice helped did his part to help Campbell
defensively, turning in a beauty of a double play in
right field. Dotson lifted a deep drive into right field
that Mattice was able to track back toward the fence,
making a nice over the shoulder catch. He was then able
to fire a strike into first base, beating the runner back
to the bag for the double play.
Every single Redleg reached base at least twice and
scored at least one run in the game.
The league is off for Mother’s Day next weekend, so the
Redlegs will be back in action against the Kettering
Royals on Sunday, May 19th. The first game of the double
header will begin at 1:00PM at Madison High School.
