Camden Falls to 6-5 After Dropping DH to Boars

The Redlegs dropped both ends of a double header to the Wild Boars Baseball Club on Sunday. Despite outhitting the Boars 17-16, the Redlegs just couldn’t scrape together runs as well as the Boars who outscored Camden 10-4.

The Boars hit the ground running in game 1, scoring 3 times on Redleg starter Aaron Carmack. Carmack settled in quickly though and allowed 0 hits over the next 3 frames while racking up 8 strikeouts over the first 4 innings. Unfortunately, the Redleg offense could only must up 1 run through the first 4 innings, a run scoring double by Saige Micomonaco by driving in Kyle Arend who had earlier singled and stolen 2nd base.

The Boars then added some distance in the 5th, scoring 3 more times before Brad Mallot made a slick double play to thwart any more runs from scoring. He fielded a hard grounder at 2nd base while ranging to his right, then quickly laid a tag on the baserunner and made a perfect throw to 1st to complete the twin killing. Carmack then struck out the final batter he faced to end the frame. Luke Campbell then took over in relief and turned in two great innings of work. He allowed just 1 hit and struck out one Boars batter.

Matt Morrison singled to lead off the 6th before Jacob Robinson smacked his first home run of the 2019 campaign to bring the Redlegs within 4 runs at 7-3. That’s where the scoring ended for Camden as they were unable to mount any further comeback bid, recording no more hits and only 1 baserunner through the end of the game.
