The Redlegs recorded their 2nd consecutive run rule
victory on Sunday, topping the Mad River Machine by a
final score of 16-3. The win moves Camden into 1st place
in the MVABL standings with just 4 weeks and 8 games left
to go in the 2021 regular season.
Camden used some two-out magic in the bottom of the 1st
to take an early lead. Kyle Arend was hit by a pitch
before Mike Hartman singled. Brandon Howard and Tyler
Eaton then both delivered RBI base hits to put the
Redlegs up 2-0. They then piled on 5 more runs in the
2nd. Eric Jameson started things off with a single
before scoring on a double by Evan Koogler. Jacob
Robinson then chipped in with an RBI base hit, followed
by Kyle Arend’s 250th career regular season hit. Mike
Hartman plated a run with a sacrifice fly, followed by
Brandon Howard delivering another RBI base hit to cap off
the inning’s highlights.
Eric Jameson started the 3rd inning with another base hit
and eventually scored on a double by Cody Saraco-Polner.
After the Machine got on the board in the top of the 4th,
Kyle Arend added another RBI single in the bottom half to
push the lead to 9-1.
The 5th inning was the only inning in the game that the
Redlegs didn’t score. Meanwhile, Tyler Eaton was well on
his way to picking up his 3rd win of the year. He tossed
the first 5 innings and gave up 1 run (0 earned) while
adding 4 strikeouts and 5 hits allowed. He would go on
to win, improving his season record to an unblemished 3-
0.
Lucas Smith took over in the top of the 6th and turned in
a scoreless inning of relief work, allowing just one
baserunner who reached via a walk. Cody Saraco-Polner
singled and eventually scored on a passed ball to extend
the lead to 10-1 after 6.
The Machine were able to scrape together a pair of runs
in the 7th aided by a fielding error, but Kevin Campbell
was able to power through it and induce a couple of
infield pop flys to end the inning without further
damage.
The bottom of the 7th saw the Redlegs pile on 4 more
runs, highlighted by runs batted in by Tyler Eaton and
James Robinson and Evan Koogler’s 2nd double of the
game. Koogler then took his turn on the mound for Camden
and turned in a quick 8th inning, punching out two
machine hitters in the process while holding the score at
14-3.
The bottom of the 8th got started with two fly outs, but
Jesse Jones doubled with two outs to put the final run
needed to secure the run rule victory at 2nd base. Kyle
Arend then strode to the plate and launched a walk-off
run rule home run over the left field fence. The home
run caps off an impressive run of 13 at bats for Arend,
where he has gone 8-8 with a home run, 2 doubles, 5 RBI,
2 walks, and 3 hit by pitches over the last 3 games.
Camden (12-4) is next in action at Oak Grove Park on
Thursday night versus the Wright Knights (5-11) at
7:00pm.
