Redlegs and Slammers Trade Blows in DH Split

The Redlegs counter punch came in game 2. Camden again got on the board first, this time they put 7 runs on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring all runs with 2 outs. A groundout and a pop out started the inning, but then Kyle Arend, Brandon Howard, and Mike Hartman singled consecutively to load the bases. Evan Koogler then worked an RBI walk before Eric Jameson and James Robinson each delivered RBI singles. Joey Watson then worked an RBI walk, followed by an RBI single by Cody Saraco-Polner. Jacob Robinson then finished up the scoring in the big first inning with a 2-run single. After the outburst of Slammer runs in game 1, the Redlegs turned to Jesse Jones (later voted co-player of the week) to try and put a halt to their offense. Jones was up to the challenge in the early going, retiring the side in the 1st but the Slammers did manage to scrape a run together in each the 2nd and 3rd innings to keep things within striking distance at 7-2.

Jacob Robinson delivered another RBI base hit in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Redlegs up 8-0, before Eric Jameson drove 2 runs home in the 4th to extend the lead to 10-2. Camden scored another run in the 5th due to a Slammers fielding error.

Kyle Arend doubled to start the bottom of the 6th, followed by a walk to Brandon Howard. Mike Hartman then drove in a run with a base hit. Later, Joey Watson delivered a 2-out 2-run single to make the score 14-2.

Jones continued to put up zeros after the 3rd inning. In fact, he allowed just two baserunners over the final 4 frames, and he erased one of those with a pick off at first base (his 2nd pick off of the game). He went on to earn his team leading 5th win of the season, striking out 4 over 7 innings of work.
