Eippert Homers, Redlegs Fall 9-6

05/04/2022

The Redlegs met up with the Southern Ohio Stars back on Sunday, May 1st and walked away with a split double header where each team earned their first win of the season.

The Redleg offense stayed cold in game one as they were able to muster only two hits through the first four frames. The Stars were hungry however, and they put up four runs in the 2nd and another five in the 4th to take a commanding 9-0 lead.

The Redlegs weren’t going to go quietly though, and they started to chip away in the 5th. Lucas Smith started things off with a one-out single before Marshall Eippert picked up his first career MVABL hit, and it was a big one. Eippert launched a towering fly ball into left that bounced off the top of the fence and out of the park for a two-run home run.

Kyle Arend came on in relief and pitched well in his 2022 debut, tossing the final three frames for the Redlegs while allowing just one earned run on two hits.

Trailing 9-2 in the bottom of the 7th, Camden put together a rally in their last chance at the plate. Evan Koogler doubled to start the inning, setting up another career first. Justin Lynch stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single for his first MVABL hit and run batted in. Lynch then promptly stole 2nd to notch his first career steal. Marshall Eippert then singled before Jacob Robinson delivered an RBI double. Next, Jesse Jones laced a base it that scored two more runs, bringing the score to 9-6. That’s where the rally died however, and Camden eventually fell by the same score.
