Carmack Has Successful 2022 Debut in Win

The Redlegs and Rangers met up for their 49th and 50th matchups in the friendly backyard battle on 6/26. Both teams would walk away with a win, as the Redlegs took game one 4-3 and the Rangers emerged victorious in the nightcap by a score of 7-4.

The Redlegs got things started right away in game 1, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. Jacob Robinson walked to start the inning and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Brad Malott then doubled him home to plate the game’s first run. Malott would later score on a passed ball.

The Rangers struck back in the top of the 3rd, finally breaking through on Aaron Carmack who was making his season debut for the Redlegs. The Rangers scored twice in the 3rd and Carmack was able to come up with a clutch inning ending strikeout to leave runners stranded at 2nd and 3rd.

The Redlegs re-claimed the lead in the 3rd when Jacob Robinson again walked and later came around to score on an RBI fielder’s choice by Kyle Arend, giving the Redlegs a 3-2 advantage.

The Rangers used a two-out triple followed by a single to tie things up in the top of the 4th. Carmack then sent the Rangers away quietly in the 5th to cap off an outstanding return to the hill. Carmack went 5 strong innings, striking out 6 while allowing just 1 earned run.

The Redlegs then pushed what would eventually be the winning run in the bottom of the 6th when Brad Malott capped off his 3-3 game with a one-out single. Joey Watson later kept the inning alive, singling with two outs and putting runners on the corners. Tyler Eaton then delivered the biggest hit of the game, a single to score Malott and put Camden on top for good.

Evan Koogler came on in relief in the 6th and turned in two scoreless innings to secure the victory. He allowed two hits with one strikeout, earning his 2nd win of the season.
