The Redlegs (8-8) met up with the Stars (1-16) last weekend
looking to avenge a loss back on May 1st that handed Camden
their 5th consecutive loss to start the season. The Redlegs
have heated up since then and continued their hot streak by
topping the Stars 5-1 and making them winners in 9 of their
last 12 games since they last met back in May.
The Stars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of
the 1st by pushing an unearned run across as the leadoff
hitter for the Stars reached on a Redleg fielding error.
Camden starter Jesse Jones left two runners on in the inning
by whiffing two hitters and inducing a flyout to right field
to end the frame.
Jones then put it on cruise control for the remainder of the
game, as he struck out the side in the 2nd and ended up
racking up 11 strikeouts in a complete game victory. He
allowed only two hits in the effort, earning his 4th win of
the season.
With Jones on the mound the Redlegs didn’t need much
offense, and they got plenty in the top of the 3rd. Jones
helped himself out by singling with one out, then quickly
stole 2nd base before being driven in on a base hit by Mike
Hartman. Evan Koogler then singled before Chris Flaherty
brought both runners home with a double that only narrowly
missed leaving the confines of Howell Field.
The Redlegs then added some insurance runs in the top of the
7th. Jacob Robinson singled to start the inning, but two
flyouts followed to leave the Redlegs with one on and two
out. Evan Koogler then reached on a fielding error,
followed by walk to Chris Flaherty that set up a clutch
two-out two-run single by Eric Jameson to push the lead to
5-1.
Jones quietly finished off the game with two groundouts and
strikeout.
