The Redlegs advanced to 2-0 on Sunday as they bested the
Xenia Scouts by a final score of 14-7.
Camden jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Jacob Robinson
started the game with a single, stole 2nd base, and then
scored on a base hit by Markus Neff. They extended that
lead to 2-0 in the top of the 3rd when Max Ramsey was hit by
a pitch to start the frame. He then stole 2nd base, later
moved to third on a groundball out, and then scored on a
passed ball.
Ben Schooler made his first start of the season and was
seemingly bulletproof as he constantly danced around danger
through the first three innings. The Scouts were able to
muster 3 baserunners in the first, but Schooler was able to
produce an easy flyout to center to end the threat. The
Scouts again threatened in the 2nd, loading the bases, but
Schooler was able to generate a strikeout and a groundball
out to short to escape any damage in the frame. He cruised
through the 3rd, allowing just one hit, but otherwise
quietly thwarted the Scouts offense.
Camden increased the lead to 4-0 in the 4th when Evan
Koogler and Joey Watson were each plunked followed by a
single from Matt Mattice to load the bases. James Robinson
plated the 3rd run with a ground ball out, followed by a
walk to Eric Jameson to reload the bases. Jacob Robinson
was then hit by a pitch to bring in the next run.
The Scouts greeted the Redleg bullpen by pounding out 5 runs
in the 4th and 5th innings to take their first lead of the
game, a 5-4 advantage.
After a quiet top of the 6th, the Redlegs exploded for 6
runs in the top of the 7th. Max Ramsey and Ben Schooler
each reached via hit by pitch, and later Markus Neff
recorded his team high 8th RBI (through two games) to plate
the first run of the frame. Joey Watson later singled,
prompting a pair of runs to score due to a throwing error.
Another run later scored via throwing error, and two more
followed due to errant pitches to the backstop.
Camden put three more on the board in the 8th. Max Ramsey
drove in Justin Lynch, who walked to start the inning. Jacob
Robinson and Ben Schooler both scored on wild pitches. The
Redlegs then scored their 14th and final run in the top of
the 9th when Eric Jameson singled to bring in Matt Mattice,
who had reached on an error and swiped 2nd earlier in the
frame.
During the Redlegs offensive outburst, rookie Noah Cline had
taken over on the mound and stymied any comeback attempt by
the Scouts. Noah tossed 3 innings in his debut, punching out
6 Scouts hitters while allowing just one hit. Joey Watson
tossed the final frame, giving up just one hit and run to
cap off the 14-7 victory.
