Redlegs Win 6 of Last 7; Beat Thunder 21-9

The Redlegs out slugged the Miami Valley Thunder on Sunday, winning by a score of 21-9. With the win, the Redlegs have won 6 of their last 7 games and move into 4th place overall in the MVABL standings.

Kevin Schaeffer got the start against the Thunder and pitched well, giving up only four earned runs over 6 innings while striking out 7. All four runs Schaeffer gave up came off the bat of Thunder slugger Drew York, who hit a three- run homerun in the 1st and a solo shot in the 4th. Drew went 2-3 against Schaeffer while the rest of his team could only muster 3 more hits.

After York put the Thunder up 3-0 in the top half of the first inning, the Redlegs came right back and scored 2 of their own. Jacob Robinson led off with a walk and Bradley then singled, followed by a walk to Brad Clark. Derek Graham then worked a bases loaded walk to bring in the first run. Bradley then scored on a passed ball to make it 3-2. But Thunder starter James Hammock was able to get 3 straight pop fly's to end the threat. After the first inning, Schaeffer settled down and allowed only 2 hits over the next 5 innings, one being the solo homer from Drew York.

The Redlegs kept right on rolling in the top of the 2nd. Kevin Campbell led the inning off with a walk. After a fly out, Robinson walked and Bradley was hit by a pitch to again load the bases. Brad Clark was then able to work a bases loaded walk to tie the game, followed by a sacrifice fly by Derek Graham which gave the Redlegs a 4-3 lead. Taylor Guntle then singled in Jared Bradley, next John Long reached on an error which set up a moon shot into the tree's in left field off the bat of Brandon Howard. This extended the Redlegs lead to 9-3 after 2 innings. The Redlegs then scored twice in the 3rd and three times in the 4th. In the 3rd Taylor Guntle drove in Bradley who had singled earlier in the inning, Guntle later scored on a fielding error. In the 4th Schaeffer led off with a walk and was driven in on a line drive home run off the bat of Jacob Robinson. John Long later drove in Derek Graham who had walked earlier in the inning. In 6 at bats, Derek Graham went 0-1 with 4 walks and a sacrifice fly. The Redlegs continued to pour it on and pulled ahead 15-4 after scoring once more in the 6th. Brad Clark doubled in Jared Bradley after a walk to lead off the inning.

Brad Clark came in to relieve Schaeffer in the 7th, and the Redlegs defense let him down committing three errors in the inning. The Thunder scored 5 times in the inning, only 2 of which were earned. After Clark pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 8th the Redlegs struck again, this time for 6 more runs. Clark led off with a double, Graham walked, and John Long singled to drive in Clark. Howard then drove a run in on a double, followed by back-to-back walks to Campbell and Schaeffer. Jacob Robinson then hit a walk off 3 run double to end the game in a run rule.

Every Redleg batter scored at least 2 runs in the game.
