The Shockers and Redlegs met up in a battle of two of the
hottest teams in the MVABL last Thursday night at Rotary
Park. The Shockers had previously won 10 of their last 11
while the Redlegs had won 8 of their last 10.
The Redlegs struck first, loading the bases in the top of
the first inning. Jacob Robinson led off with a walk
followed by a single from Jared Bradley. After a strikeout,
Derek Graham walked to load the bases. John Long then drew
a walk to bring in a run, and Brandon Howard singled one in
directly after. But a miscommunication on the base path's
killed the Redlegs rally as two runners ended up on third
base to easily end the inning for the Shockers. The
Shockers wasted no time in knotting things back up, scoring
two of their own in the bottom half of the first,
highlighted by Taylor Hause's RBI triple. The Redlegs
jumped
back into the lead in the top of the 2nd. Kevin Campbell
led off with a walk, then pitcher Eric Williams put down a
sacrifice bunt to move the runner to 2nd base. Jacob
Robinson then laced an RBI triple to right field, and then
scored on an RBI ground out by Jared Bradley.
But that was where the offense stopped for the Redlegs. The
Shockers would go on to score 5 unanswered runs to win the
game by a final score of 7-4. The Redlegs did threaten in
the top halves of the 5th and 7th, loading the bases each
time only to come up empty. All in all the Redlegs left the
bases loaded three times, leaving a total of 9 runners on
base in the game.
Highlights: Jacob Robinson 2-3, RBI, 3B, 2R, BB. Jared
Bradley 2-4, RBI, R. Brandon Howard 1-3, RBI.
