MVABL Action Begins Sunday!

04/06/2011

The Redlegs are looking to pick up right where they left off after posting an impressive 16-12 regular season record in their rooking campaign before taking an early exit in a tough series against the Shockers in the first round of the playoffs. With a solid set of veterans returning, mixed in with a couple of new prospects, the team expects to compete in 2011. The outfield will look very similar this season as Jacob Robinson will once again man center field flanked by Matt Mattice and Jared Bradley. Taylor Guntle will also see outfield time when he isn’t on the mound, and newcomer Justin McCurdy will work into the mix as well. The infield will once again be anchored by Brandon Howard, Brad Clark, John Long and Kevin Campbell. But rookies Matt Redman and Dalton Cox will find middle infield time and rookie Greg Lebouef adds depth on the corners. 1st Round draft pick Kyle Slone will provide depth all around the infield, and could even be used in the outfield as well. Even with the loss of two starters from 2010, the Redlegs are still loaded with arms. Taylor Guntle will once again lead the pitching staff in an attempt to build upon his undefeated rookie season. Brad Clark and Eric Williams will each return to the mound while Brandon Howard and Kevin Campbell will replace the void left from Brian Kuhbander and Kevin Schaeffer. Jacob Robinson also has hopes of getting back on the mound in 2011 as he continues to rehab his right shoulder.

The Redlegs will open the 2011 season against the Warren County Shockers this Sunday, April 10th, at 1:00pm at Greenview High School in Jamestown. The last time these two clubs squared off was in the first round of the 2010 playoffs, where the Shockers eventually prevailed in the three game set. The Shockers went on to the MVABL championship series where they fell to the Kettering Royals. The Redlegs and Shockers split their season series last year 3-3, with the Shockers slightly outscoring the Redlegs by a total of 56-53. These two clubs will provide each other an early test and an excellent opening day match up!
