The Redlegs took on the newly founded Miami Valley Fusion on
Sunday in game 2 of a split double header. In game 1, The
Fusion took on the Miami Valley Thunder and pounded out 16
runs in a lopsided victory. An undermanned Redleg team
didn’t fare much better, as the Fusion ran away with the
game and eventually won 20-4. The Redlegs offense was
silenced by the Fusion pitching staff, getting only 4 hits
on the afternoon. The defense performed just as poorly as 9
errors were committed on the afternoon, a franchise record
for errors committed in a single game.
Jacob Robinson’s 19 game hitting streak that has stretched
since the middle of last season came to an end as he was
unable to record a hit. Matt Mattice increased his hit
streak to 7 games, one short of his career high. John Long
recorded the only RBI on the day, a sacrifice fly in the 3rd
inning which scored Robinson. Brad Clark had a hit and
scored 2 runs on the day.
The Redlegs will look to rebound against the Beavercreek Sox
tonight at 8:30pm at Rotary Park. The Sox took 3 of 4 from
the Redlegs last season, and this is their first game of the
2011 season.
