Offense Stays Quiet, Shockers Win 10-2

In an opening day rematch, the Camden Redlegs squared off against the Warren County Shockers on Sunday at Preble Shawnee High School. The Redlegs hoped to get back on track in this one after losing their two previous matchups, but the Shockers had other ideas. The Shockers put the ball in play early and often, racking up 17 hits which scored 10 runs and forced 4 errors on the Redlegs.

Ben Schlater started for the Shockers and surrendered the lead in the 1st inning as Brandon Howard doubled in Jacob Robinson, who had singled 2 batters before. But Schlater cruised through the next 7 innings, giving up only 2 more hits and 1 run while striking out 7 of his 8 batters on the day. The Redlegs got their 2nd run in the 8th inning after Brandon Howard drew a walk and Steve Benthal doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. After a flyout, Campbell walked to load the bases. Matt Redman then drove Howard in on a fielder’s choice, but the Shockers alertly gunned down Benthal trying to take home. The Redlegs went quietly in the 9th as reliever Chris Smith got a strikeout and 2 groundouts to end the game with a 10-2 final score.
