Rangers Sweep Redlegs in "Backyard Battle"

07/06/2011

Game 2 featured a couple of Springboro coaches facing off on the hill against each other. Shawn Schmitt went for the Rangers, who is an assistant varsity coach, and Kevin Campbell for the Redlegs, who coaches as an assistant on the JV squad.

The Redlegs struck first as Jacob Robinson led the game off with a single and eventually scored on a double by Brad Clark. Clark was later driven in on a single by Brandon Howard to give the Redlegs a 2-0 advantage. But the Rangers would then take the lead in the bottom half of the inning and would never trail again in this one. The Rangers scored 4 in the 1st inning, 2 in the 2nd, 1 in the 4th, and 3 more in the 6th. Josh Cawein led the offense for the Rangers as he drove in a run in every at bat, including a solo homerun in the 4th. Cawein also happens to coach with Campbell as the JV Head Coach. The Redlegs fought in the 7th inning before eventually falling 10-5. In the 7th, Matt Redman led off with a walk and Robinson singled after. Clark then drove in another run on a double and Justin McCurdy drove in 2 on a single. But Schmitt was able to induce a fly out and a strikeout to complete the game.

Highlights: Jacob Robinson 2-3, 2R, BB. Brad Clark 2-3, 2 2B, 2RBI, 2R. Brandon Howard 2-4, 2B.
