Redlegs Sweep Thunder

07/21/2011

Game 2 was much of the same, as the Redlegs seemed to be firing on all cylinders. Taylor Guntle took the mound and was dominant through 7 innings of work, picking up the complete game victory. Taylor allowed only 5 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 3 Thunder hitters.

The Redlegs took the lead in the top of the 1st and would never look back, as they led for the duration of the game. Robinson led off the game with a walk and eventually came around to score on a Brad Clark single. In the 2nd, Caleb Rodriguez roped a 1-out triple down the right field line and scored when Jared Bradley followed with a single. Kevin Campbell then singled which led to Matt Redman tripling in a run. Mattice later singled to get Redman in and give the Redlegs a 4-0 lead. The Redlegs added some cushion to their lead in the 5th when Brad Clark drove two runs home with a double but was gunned down at 3rd trying to stretch it into a triple. Brandon Howard then blasted his 4th homer of the year to push the lead to 7-1. Clark struck again in the 6th as he doubled home 2 more, after Kevin Campbell and Matt Redman singled earlier in the inning. Brandon Longacre got in on the action doubling in two of his own which increased the Redleg advantage to 11-1. In the 7th, Caleb Rodriguez drew a walk followed by a single from Jared Bradley. Rodriguez then scored when Campbell singled and Bradley scored directly after when Robinson hit a sacrifice fly to center field. With the wins, the Redlegs improved to 8-11 on the season and hope to get hot down the final stretch as they gear up for the playoffs.
